• Action Plan for Diamond Open Access
  • Jointly developed by Science Europe, cOAlition S, OPERAS, and the French National Research Agency (ANR).
  • Aims to align and develop common resources for the Diamond Open Access ecosystem
  • Launched on February 3, 2022

• AEGIS-OA (Activate European Guidance and Incentives for Sustainable Open Access publishing)
  • A key initiative of the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH) and OPERAS, launched in Brussels.
  • Launched in March 19, 2026.

• ALMASI (Aligning and Mutualizing Nonprofit Open Access Publishing Services Internationally)
  • Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program.
  • Coordinated by European-led initiatives in collaboration with international partners.

• Best Practices Checklist for Diamond OA Publishers.
  • Produced by the DIAMAS (Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication) consortium.
  • Released on July 2025.

• cOAlition S: Diamond Open Access Initiative.
  • Managed by cOAlition S, an international consortium of research funding and organizations.
  • Launch Years: 2018 (General Mandate) | 2021 (Study) | 2022 (Action Plan)

• Creating a Sustainable Funding Scheme for Diamond Open Access Through Institutional Collaboration in Switzerland (CoDOA)
  • A collaborative project involving several Swiss higher education institutions, including the University of Zurich, University of Geneva, and ZHAW.
  • Aims to develop and implement a national, sustainable funding model for Diamond Open Access in Switzerland.
  • Project Duration: 2024 – 2026

• Community-Driven Open-Access-Journale zwischen wissenschaftlichen und ressourcenbezogenen Anforderungen. (CODRIA)
  • The project is a collaboration between Bielefeld University Library and Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSBI).
  • Investigate the sustainability of "Community-Driven" (Diamond) Open Access journals.
  • Project Duration: May 2024 – April 2027.

• Creating a Robust Accessible Federated Technology for Open Access (CRAFT-OA)
  • Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program.
  • Coordinated by the University of Göttingen and involves a consortium of 23 partners across 14 European countries.
  • Project Duration: January 2023 – December 2025.

• Developing Institutional Open Access Publishing Models to Advance Scholarly Communication (DIAMAS)
  • Funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe program.
  • Coordinated by Aix-Marseille University (AMU) and involves 23 international organizations, including OPERAS, LIBER, and Science Europe.
  • Project Duration: September 2022 – August 2025.

• Diamond Discovery Hub. (DDH)
  • Developed as part of the DIAMAS project in collaboration with CRAFT-OA and DOAJ.
  • Hosted within the European Diamond Capacity Hub (EDCH).
  • Launched in October 2025.

• Diamond ERA.
  • A strategic briefing published by OPERAS, the European Research Infrastructure.
  • Aims to outline the transition from theoretical support for Diamond Open Access to its practical implementation.
  • Released on January 22, 2026

• Diamond Funding Navigator.
  • Developed and maintained by the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and University Library in Germany.
  • Launched in Late 2024

• Diamond Open Access Recommendations and Guidelines.
  • Part of the DIAMAS project.
  • Developed by the European University Association (EUA), Science Europe, and OPERAS.
  • Released in May 26, 2025.

• Diamond Year for DOAJ (2025 Review)
  • An annual strategic summary published by the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ.)
  • Documents the significant milestones achieved in the Diamond Open Access sector throughout 2025.
  • Released on December 19, 2025

• The Diamond OA Standard (DOAS)
  • Developed by the DIAMAS consortium as a part of the of the Horizon Europe project.
  • Aims to To establish a comprehensive Extensible Quality Standard for Institutional Publishing (EQSIP).
  • Released on September 20, 2024 (Version 1.0)

• European Diamond Capacity Hub. (EDCH)
  • Fiscally hosted by OPERAS and supported by a 3-year grant from the European Commission.
  • To serve as the central coordination and support center for Diamond Open Access in the European Research Area (ERA).
  • Launch Date: September 2025

• ELADOAH Project
  • Research and development initiative focused on the German-speaking scholarly landscape.
  • Aims to develop a "Blueprint for Collaborative and Fair Diamond Open Access" (Blaupause für gemeinschaftliches und faires Diamond Open Access.)

F

• Free Journals Network. (FJN)
  • Aims to promote and support journals that are free to both authors and readers (Diamond Open Access)
  • Launch Date: early 2018.

G

• Global Summit on Diamond Open Access.
  • Co-organized by Redalyc, AmeliCA, UNESCO, CLACSO, cOAlition S, Science Europe, and ANR.
  • Serves as the primary meeting ground for the Global Alliance for Diamond Open Access.
  • Launch Date: 2023 (Inaugural Summit)

J

• Joint Pledge for Open Research Europe. (ORE)
  • Co-founded by major regional and international organizations, including UNESCO, cOAlition S, Science Europe, Redalyc/AmeliCA, CLACSO, and ANR.
  • Launch Date: July 2024 (Formalized during the pre-summit proceedings)

• KOALA (Establishing Consortial Open Access Solutions)
  • Led by the TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology and the University of Konstanz.
  • Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
  • Launch Date: January 2021

• Lyrasis OACIP (Open Access Community Investment Program)
  • Aims to provide a community-driven framework for funding Diamond Open Access journals that do not charge Article Processing Charges (APCs.)
  • Launch Date: 2020.

M

• Mapping U.S. Diamond Open Access Journals.
  • Produced by Lyrasis in collaboration with researchers from the University of Kansas and Indiana University Indianapolis.
  • Provides the first comprehensive, data-driven analysis of the Diamond Open Access landscape in the United States.
  • Release Date: March 2025

O

• Open Journals Collective (OJC)
  • Aims to provide a collective platform that reduces the technical and administrative burdens on small publishers.
  • Launch Date: 2024.
