Walt Crawford, writer/editor, Mountain View, California. [email protected]

Director/managing editor, PALINET Leadership Network--which includes a growing cluster of articles on open access.

Involvement with open access:

  • Periodic articles on library access to scholarship in Cites & Insights (which would be gold OA if it was scholarly, but it isn't scholarly)
  • "Research" on early free ejournals--those that began prior to 1995--resulting in two essays in Cites & Insights, one of which was republished by Learned Publishing (April 2002, "Free electronic refereed journals") (These manuscripts have been submitted for possible reworking into an OAD list.)
  • Speech on open access, "Is free too expensive?," at the 2004 Charleston Conference.

Peter Suber has called me an "open access independent." I can live with that. (Stevan Harnad has called me much worse, and I can live with that too.)

My intention here is to correct typographical errors as I encounter them--and, of course, to publicize OAD as feasible.
