mySociety is a not-for-profit social enterprise with a mission to invent and popularise digital tools that enable citizens to exert power over institutions and decision makers. We are based in the UK, and support partners who deploy our technologies across the globe, in over 30 countries so far. mySociety is internationally recognized as a leading civic tech organisation in:

  • Creating reusable, internationalised, open source projects that answer the civic needs of a population, which operate at scale in a wide range of countries
  • Having a rigorous focus on the ultimate users of these services to help ensure their update and use
  • Working around the world with local organisations on solutions relevant to the local political, social and civic context, co-designing with the experts on the ground
  • Bringing together experiences from a wider community of users of mySociety projects

mySociety is fundamentally concerned with enabling citizens to be capable of demanding better from governing institutions, especially where those institutions are inefficient. We use digital technologies because we believe they have the ability to change expectations about what is normal for citizens to do (for example, making it more normal to ask questions and expect answers from a government agency). We have followed a digital path primarily because of the prospects for reaching scaled impacts relatively cheaply.
