Representatives of universities, research institutions and research funders the world over that have adopted (or are planning to adopt) an OA mandate are invited to register their policies in ROARMAP (the Registry of Open Access Material Archiving Policies) as a show of force during OA week, setting an example to encourage other institutions and funders worldwide to do likewise. If you know of an OA mandate -- already adopted or proposed -- that has not yet been registered in ROARMAP, please register it (or encourage a relevant official to register it). Please register your mandate in ROARMAP HERE

The book, which includes a chapter on Open Access to scientific knowledge, promotes the idea of maximizing the access to and usage of university-produced intellectual works. The authors (Couture, Dubé & Malissard) have accordingly self-archived the revised manuscript of the entire book in UQAM’s repository Archipel, and obtained from the publisher (Presses de l’Université du Québec) the right to keep it there after publication. To our knowledge, this is a first in Quebec-based scholarly book publishing. The lessons which will be drawn from this “pilot project” could eventually lead, or so the authors hope, to something similar to Athabasca University Press, which publishes all its titles in open access, or Manchester University Press (UK), which endorse self-archiving of authors’ manuscripts.

- Open Access Q&A with Peter Suber: During Open Access Week, come join a discussion with one of the leading voices in Open Access, Peter Suber. Currently a Berkman Fellow at Harvard, Suber also serves as the Open Access Project Director at Public Knowledge. In addition to his work on Open Access, Suber has taught philosophy, computer science, and law at Earlham College. His research focuses on how policy and technology can foster research, as well as the real and potential impact of the Internet on scholarly communication. His talk on Wednesday will include a discussion of the Open Access Tracking Project as well as a Q&A session. The Open Access Tracking Project uses tagging to identify developments in the Open Access movement in real time.
