I am the director of the Center for open electronic publishing (Cléo) which develop OpenEdition, a portal dedicated to digital publications in human and social sciences (HSS). I have first created Revues.org, a platform dedicated to journals (1999), then Calenda, a platform dedicated to events in HSS (2000). Then, I co-created Hypotheses, a major academic blogging platform (2008) and OpenEdition Books (2013).

After being laureate of the Agregation of History (1996), I started as an historian of popular photography in villages (1999), and created Revues.org at the same time. I was so excited about digital publishing that I stopped my researches in History and joined the CNRS in 2007 (Centre national de la recherche scientifique), the most important funding agency for research in France (30 000 employes at national level).

OpenEdition is now a facility of excellence and will be funded at least until 2019 December 31th.

I am contributing to Blogo-numericus, a blog dedicated to digital issues created by Pierre Mounier.

I believe that open access of research is better than gated access, and my work is dedicated to this question. I am convinced that research should not be separated from society. So, I am looking for long-term solutions to make open access sustainable. I am also involved in new forms of publication and scientific communications.

I am involved in several national, european or international programmes dedicated to digital humanities and digital publishing.
